| In 1986, the Group W
Productions company, Filmation, created BraveStarr. Unlike their earlier
creation, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe,
BraveStarr was their idea from the beginning, and they licensed the rights for
creating action figures to Mattel instead of vice versa. Even though the cartoon wasn't as successful as its Filmation predecessor,
it's just as good and better at points. Many people put the blame of the cartoon's short
run on Mattel as they hurried to release the figures for the Christmas season of 1986
before anyone had even heard of BraveStarr. The action figure line's poor selling
dubbed BraveStarr a dud before it even aired in 1987. In reality, BraveStarr
was one of the most creative and original cartoons to air on Saturday morning.
